163 - decluttering

When you come back home following a stressful day at work you encounter messy things all over the place, unopened mail, and a full sink with dirty utensils. How do you feel about that? Overwhelmed, stressed, and downright exhausted.

However, physical clutter is not all there is to it; mental clutter also needs to be addressed. Currently our lives are flooded with continuous messages, alarms, and duties. Our plates are always full. We’ve got work, families, and our social life too. Of course, it is understandable why we are drowning!

Hey there, wonderful listeners! Welcome back to another episode. I'm Neslie, your friendly podcaster, and today we're diving deep into a topic that affects each and every one of us: decluttering.

However, before we begin this educating trip, if you are a new here make sure that you click on that subscribe button and subscribe into our self care community. Do not miss out for one episode which will be loaded with tips and information on how to be the best person that you can possible be.

Shall we discuss science, if I can? Clutter affects your stress levels. Studies have revealed that our levels of stress related hormone such as cortisols rise when our physical space is too cluttered. Clutter is capable of affecting even sleep in addition as relaxation does not just become a simple process anymore.

However, it is not about the only the physical clutter. When things are not working out for us, our minds fill up with concern, fear and racing thoughts. The continuous mental chatter takes away our peaceful and caring time.

Moreover, clutter does not only cause stress but also affects our emotions in many ways. Do you usually feel embarrassed whenever you have unannounced visitors in your home because it’s always untidy? Maybe, you’ve also felt guilty about being less organized or in charge.

Some of these emotional burdens may erode our self-esteem and self-worth. Therefore, any form of self-care should be aimed at uplifting oneself and nothing more.

So, what is the magical ingredient that enables all of this? How does cleaning up help us get back on top, decrease anxiety levels, and bring our self-love efforts to an even higher level? Very good question!

Decluttering is not only about discarding some things, or even tidying up. It’s really a matter of regaining both physical and psychological space. All in all, it is about giving space for things that real value to you.

There are countless decluttering techniques out there, but I'll share a few that have personally worked wonders for me:

The KonMari Method: This is motivated by Marie Kondo way of thinking and it encourages you to maintain what gives them delight. Connecting with your stuff, in a beautiful way, to ensure that it reflects who you are and what you believe in.

The 30-Day Challenge: Attempt focusing on a single domain of junk for 30 consecutive days every day. This is usually a gradual process which does not overburden an individual and hence suitable for busy people

The One-In, One-Out Rule: Each time you bring an item into your house, replace it with another like-item. it also enables you not to be an owner of many things, therefore minimizing clutter that might accumulate.

Through the process of decluttering, you will begin noticing certain wonderful transformations. You home will be less heavy while appearing more welcoming and genuinely representing you. In addition, you will have less distraction and better concentration in your mind.

But it doesn't stop there. This will help you relax, have better sleep pattern, and enhance your emotional health. This will free up time and strength to go in for real soul-nurturing treatments such as yoga, meditation, swimming or exercise.

Not to mention, we should include the scientific basis behind all these claims. Numerous researches have already proved that cleaning up clutters can reduce stress, improve work efficiency, and lift your spirits. Your body’s well-being at your fingertip.

Therefore, my friends, when are you prepared to start journey of self care and transformation? It is all about getting rid of clutter. Keep in mind that getting rid of old possessions is not really enough; you need to create room within your house to make way for more cheerful and happier moments.
